Install Mod Apk w/ Obb or Data

I am confused about installing mod apk's with data/obb. I've read a handful of tutorials, but it's back n forth.
It's like half say to do the following:

Download Mod Apk
Download Obb / Data
Install Mod Apk
Copy downloaded obb or data folder to /Android/obb or data.
Start game (Mod Apk)

Then the other half say something like:

Download Mod Apk
Download Obb / Data
Install google play legit app, rename it's obb then uninstall the app.
Then install the mod apk.
Next Move downloaded obb or data to /Android/obb or /Android/data
Run game.

I am so confused.

Both ways are valid methods
The easiest way is to download from the play store as the download speed for the OBB on will normally be loads faster. Only reason the OBB would be downloaded separate is if the game is not available in you store or it is a paid apk
The 2nd method you show is a long winded version if you need to Install from the play store then you don't need to download the obb/data from 3rd party source you only need to rename

So I just install play store app, rename obb, uninstall app, install mod app?
