Doesn't work, uninstalled play store version and it doesn't install at all.

Try blocking/erasing all data of Google Play Service/Playstore in Settings/Apps. Then uninstall the original apk (PS version), next install mod apk. It may work.
Or if it still not work, try on another device or emulator like Ecthelion said above
 
Not installing for me either tried first without ever having installed it then tried installing the play store version uninstalling then the mod no luck
 
If you using Android 6 above then try to make sure to go to settings and allow all permissions and draw over apps/overlay permissions then restart your game

The display over other apps option doesn't show for this modded APK
 
When I downloaded and installed from here, I get a white screen for a few seconds, then I get this menu, I press play, and then black screen, nothing, I even wait for 5 minutes to see if it would show the game, but nothing.

try pressing close instead of play. I remember pressing Close when i see that menu. Just try it if it does still proceed or press the back button
