Maybe it is better to use wallhack? I have found several mods with this option like for Standoff 2 Mod APK, but still need some testing.

You could possibly download some sort of sound mixer app to boost the mids and lower the high/low frequencies. Footsteps are usually located in the mid frequency in games.
