If it's a xapk file, you need to download support app that can help you install xapk file, or you can do it manually by changing file to zip then open it and you will see apk file and obb file.
If it's a apk file, try blocking/erasing all data of Google Play Service/Playstore in Settings/Apps. Then uninstall the original apk (PS version) then install mod apk. It may work.
