It is possible to update modded app from different modder ?

Example : i have this modded .apk installed on my phone, but it's already outdated, then I looked for an update from the same modder but he didn't do the update.
Can I update from a different modder, so that my app data isn't lost ? because the modded app cannot connect to Google Play Games (and the application I meant doesn't have a Facebook link).

my phone hasn't been rooted yet. I've tried VMOS before but it doesn't work on my phone.
