I've tested this mod and it doesn't crash at the first battle. Maybe you need to check your settings. I tried it on Nox emulator android 4
 
Go to settings/App/Choose game/ then clear data and cache. After that, restart your phone and try again.
If it is still crash, I think it may not be compatible with your device. Let try on another one or emulators like Nox, Bluestack or LD Player, it will work.

Did all this and still crashes, the play store version works. This should be marked for emulators only. All I have is my phone so no I can't test it in anything else.

what is your android OS version?
are you rooted?
 
Yeah it crashes too for me too at first
So in order to not get crashes u must buy some of the monster first (i bought 5 and put it in my party) from the chest/box and trade diamond for gold, buy some abilities such as repel, exp multiplier, pet, etc then you wont stuck / crashes again... at least that works for my phone

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I exchanged for 100,000 gold open five chest for the monsters and bought all the items that included exp multiplier, I give up.

Do you have access to a pc, try using nox to play it. Maybe it's your phone that isn't compatible with the game.

see possible cause of the problem :
  1. OS version of your phone might be incompatible to the game
  2. the downloaded apk on your phone might be corrupted. try redownloading it.
  3. you may forget to allow your phone settings to allow unknown resources to install
