Just link your account with Facebook or Twitter, then you can uninstall the app and install the new version without lose your gems

@Wenjun8701 is correct, you will retain your gems if you transfer your data using SNS (Facebook or Twitter account). The only thing that would make your gems vanish while reloading your game is if you attempt to transfer across platforms (e.g. trying to load your saved progress on an iPhone after playing on an Android device, or vice versa).
