They updated the same day you posted this. Does this work on 0.0.23?

Also, I get an error saying this game isnt compatible despite me being able to play the official and updated version with no problem. Why is that?

unless it's asking you to update ingame there shouldn't be an issue. Are you playing this on your phone or an emulator?

Well after it failed to install on my tablet (android/rooted) I tried an emulator and after it failed on the emulator I tried my phone (android non-root) and it worked. Id rather have on work on my tablet though since all my progress is on that, and after the update.

were you playing it with the same mod on your tablet?
 
I've installed this on my S9 and realme 5pro, works well. It does not ask me to update or something. Still playing it now. Thanks!
