I think you can't do that because the original apk should have a different sign

I do it all the time. I have my lucky patcher installed through Xposed. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Hmm, I can run the game normally though, the Play Store version is 1.6.4.1 and so is the mod. Try redownloading the mod without doing anything to your device, just let it download smoothly. Hope your game can run again.
